Ingredients for making Vazhathandu poriyal/ upperi / plantain stem stir fry:
Chopped cleaned plantain 2.5 cups (thandu)
Coconut oil 2 tsp
Mustard 1 tsp
Curry leaves few
Salt as required
Bengal gram 1 tbsp
Red chilly 3

Cooking instructions for making Vazhathandu poriyal/ upperi / plantain stem stir fry:
Heat oil in a pressure pan.
Fry mustard, curry leaves and bengal gram.
Fry them well. Add red chilly.
Mix and add chopped plantain and mix.
Add salt and pressure cook for 1 whistle ( no need to add water).
Switch off after 1 whistle. Let the pressure come off naturally.
Open and give a stir. If there is water let it evaporate.
Yummy vazhathandu poriyal ready.
Serve hot with kollu rasam and rice.
